In 1803 he commencedthe practice of law in his native 1809 he removed to Hudson, the shiretown of his county, where he spent sevenyears, gaining strength by contending inthe courts with some of the ablest menwho have adorned the bar of his heroic example of John Quincy Adamsin retaining in ofifice every faithful man,without regard to his political preferences,had been thoroughly repudiated by Gen-eral Jackson.
