Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia, 1912. Artist: Anon
Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia, 1912. Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich (1878-1918) was the younger brother of Tsar Nicholas II. When Nicholas abdicated after the Russian Revolution, Michael was named his successor instead of Nicholas' son Alexis, who suffered from haemophilia and was not expected to live. Michael was never confirmed as Tsar and, like his brother, was murdered by the Communists in 1918. Found in the collection of the State Museum of History, Moscow.
