Rickettsia rickettsii is a bacteria that causes Rocky Mountain spotted fever in humans. The bacteria is transmitted to humans by wood ticks. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, and rash. If it is not treated early with antibiotics, the disease can be fatal.
