Shipping facilities may militate against the shipmentof the cocoanut as a fruit, but there is a fair demandfor cocoanut oil and copra, neither of which are perish-able or require shipment at special times or by fast boats. No mining has been attempted in the former Dan-ish West Indies; in fact, there is no record of anyprospecting or authentic information, either positive ornegative, available on this subject. There is unsup-ported testimony from native sources that both copperand iron are to be found on St. John, but nothing isknown regarding quantities.
