San Antonio de Padua Convent, Izamal, Yucatan Peninsular, Mexico. This convent was founded in 1549 by the Franciscan monks and the buildings constructed under the direction of Fray Diego de Landa on top of the ancient pre hispanic Mayan site known as Ppapp Hol Chac. A statue of the Immaculate Conception was brought here from Guatamala by Landa and Izmal is now one of the most important sanctuaries of the Virgin Mary in Yucatan
