Halcion (triazolam), mg tablets. Triazolam is used on a short-term basis to treat insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep). Triazolam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines, which are a type of depressant. A depressant is a drug that depresses the function or activity of a specific part of the brain. Depressants are also occasionally referred to as "downers." Depressants are widely used throughout the world as prescription medicines and as illicit substances. Effects include anxiolysis, pain relief, sedation or somnolence, cognitive/memory impairment, as well as in some instances euphoria, dissociation, muscle relaxation, lowered blood pressure or heart rate, respiratory depression, and anticonvulsant effects; complete anesthesia or death at can result at high doses.
