A saddened little refugee boy -- his laughter lost with his home in the war-ravaged Pacific -- seems dubious about donning the life jacket aboard a Coast Guard-manned transport en route from the combat zone. To Coast Guardsman John Brady, boatswain's mate second class, the job of cheering up the youngster is tougher, in a way, than the invasion beaches of Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Rendova, and New Georgia, where Brady ran landing barges under Jap fire.
