Original charming Victorian era Cabinet card of a cute young boy wearing a velvet suit with a lace collar (Little Lord Fauntleroy style) standing next to a beautiful rocking horse. From the studio of Chas (Charles) Norris, with studios at High St. Bridgnorth, Shropshire and Dudley Rd, Birmingham, Circa late 1890's, 1900.

Joseph Norris was a photographer at 5 Union Passage from 1862 -1885. Also, Chas (Charles) Norris was his son and may have taken over the business from 1888 - 1892 at 52 New Street trading under the name J. Morris and also may have been trading under the name of Anglo American Photographic Company (His son Arthur was also a photographer - perhaps he was the one who took over his dad's business). Joseph Norris actually died in 1885. Chas Norris, I presume, moved locations after 1892 because there are later photographs with his name and a new address on. Source: Birmingham History Forum. Also, Charles (Chas) Norris was listed as residing at 139 Dudley Road in Kelly's Directory 1903. By 1911 census he is listed in London. This information puts the photograph firmly between 1892-1911. Other dating info based on the clothes the boy is wearing - The boy is wearing a velvet Fauntleroy suit. The Fauntleroy suit craze began in the 1880s and was wide spread during the 1990s. The popularity of the classic Fauntleroy suit continued through the turn of the century. Fauntleroy suits were still worn in the 1910s, but generally declined in popularity after the 1900s. Lace collars were generally replaced with ruffled collars. Source: Historical Boy's clothing This info backs up the date of 1890's.
