Exercise in space. Astronaut Rich Clifford using a rowing machine during Shuttle Mission STS-59. Exercise devices such as this are normally carried on Shuttle flights, particularly those of long duration. Regular exercise is thought to help alleviate some of the physiological changes associated with spending time in near-zero gravity. Mission STS-59 flew on 9-20 April 1994.
