Portrait of the escape helper Rudi Thurow in the Berlin Wall Museum, Germany
, Berlin, Germany - Rudi Thurow was an escape helper. He was a member of the Girrmann Group gathered around Detlef Girrmann. The members of this group were the first escape helpers for people trying to escape from the GDR. Those helpers operated through a company established in 1963 called Travel Agency of the Students of West-Berlin Free University (Reisebüro von Studenten der West-Berliner Freien Universität). During the first seven months after the construction of the Berlin Wall, they helped over people to flee from the GDR. On the Stasi issued an order to murder Thurow. In this picture Thurow is in the Berlin Wall Museum in Kreuzberg in which he still works as a tour guide. GT
