Pyelography (pyelo-ureterography) a study of the normal and pathologic anatomy of the renal pelvis and ureter . Fig. 43.—Normal pelvis and ureter. 76 PYELOGRAPHY When the catheter is in the ureter, the ureteral outhnedepends to a great extent on the degree of return flow along-side the catheter, and on the elasticity of the ureteral a profuse return flow the resulting outline may beeasily confused with that of pathologic dilatation. Thereis but a slight degree of return flow alongside the catheter, and but little distention of the ureteral wall is the comparative large size of the ureter from whereit leaves the true pelvis as far as the first point of narrow-ing. In Fig. 44 the degree of return flow alongside thecatheter is rendered clearly visible in the right ureter. THE NORMAL PELVIS 77 The outline of the left ureter is not visible because of in-sufficient distention. In Fig. 13 the irregular outline causedby return flow is also well illustrated. In Fig. 45 the ure-teral outline is markedly irregular as the result of profuse
