Abdominal colostomy surgery. Open abdominal wound after the reversal (takedown) of a patient's colostomy (site at bottom). A colostomy is an operation in which part of the colon (large intestine) is brought through an incision in the abdominal wall and connected to a colostomy bag that collects faeces. Because of a technically challenging anastomosis involving the ileum, there is a diverting ileostomy and appliance (seen at top). For a close-up of the laparotomy (abdominal surgery) incision, see image C029/9046.
