The Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir rehearsing for this weekends Christmas concert.
The Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir rehearsing for this weekends Christmas concert. The only residential senior school cathedral GIRLS choir in the UK is getting ready for its Christmas services. Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir sang in the magnificent Norman cathedral in Cambridgeshire this week, as they rehearsed for the festive season. The choir was founded in September 2006 - more than 1000 YEARS after the boys' choir was formed. The 16 girls, who are all members of King's Ely and aged between 13 and 18, rehearse five mornings a week before school and sing Evensong twice a week. This year they will be singing a Gospel Christmas concert this weekend with BBC's Ken Burton. The choir is led by Sarah MacDonald, who is also director of music at Selwyn College in Cambridge. She said: "The choir is really thriving and I am very proud of them. They are now well-established musically and they are making a terrific sound."
