Remembrance. A First World War memorial in the Market square of Montlhéry. The bronze statue shows a French infantryman throwing a grenade. France.
Lanceur de grenade: Memorials to the dead of the First World War such as this can be found in towns and villages all over France. This particular example, a bronze statue representing a French infantryman throwing a grenade, honours the men of Montlhéry in Essonne who went away to fight, but never returned. It was created by the sculptor Louis Maubert who was a local man and erected in the Market square of the town. The inauguration was in 1921, just a few years after the war ended. This photograph was taken in 2014, a century after the Great War began.
