Ciprofloxacin antibiotic pill in a blister pack. This drug is used to kill bacterial infections. It works by blocking bacterial Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) replication by binding itself to an enzyme called DNA gyrase. This causes fatal, double-stranded breaks in the bacterial chromosome. It belongs to a group of antibiotics known as quinolones and is taken for disorders including: infections of the bladder, kidneys and genital organs; inflamation of the prostate gland; some types of gastro-enteritis and pneumonia.
