When a motor is completely overhauled thefields are tested with a compass for polarity. The othertests are mentioned in the next paragraph and underTesting Equipments. If all but the bearings of the motor are in good con-dition, the armature is removed and the fields are testedwith the voltmeter and ammeter for short-circuits andloose connections and then with 1000 volts forgrounds. Upon this the fields are cleaned and motor finally is reassembled with an overhauledarmature and supplied with other bearings. Each motor is handled by a man and a helper, whostrip and reassemble the machine complete except thatall brush holders are handled by a specialist.
