Miss Pierces method of education being both original andcomprehensive, she not only wrote history for her scholars tolearn, but plays for them to act.^ These performances are saidto have been very engrossing to the scholars, all lessons andother occupations being given up for the time. They must alsohave greatly entertained the townspeople. Then, either to try-to rival the fine acting of the Female Academy, or to returnthe courtesy of their entertainment, or both, the young men ofthe Law School would write and act other plays.
