In this instance the machinery and apparatusare installed in a freight car of standard design. Figs. 2 to 4are internal views, showing the arrangement of machinery,etc. Great attention has been paid to the location of theheavier units, to avoid undue strain beingbrought on any part of the car or machineryduring the time it is in motion. The rotaryconverter is placed at one end of the car andthe transformer at the other, in each case thecenter of gravity being immediately over thetruck. An equipment consisting of a rotary con-verter and transformer has been found byexperience to be preferable to employing asynchronous motor generator set.
