Wall paintingwas largely the ordinarydado, painted inred, white, andblue, were various scenes. One is thoroughlydomestic. Single figures placed at intervals includea servant sweeping the floor with a palm-brush(fig. 24), and a cook who has left his wig behind,carrying two stands with bowls containing a jointof meat and some cakes. On the Jiarein wallsthere are servants with cattle, a canal, a lake, lotus-plants, and sailing-boats. Elsewhere was a familygroup of the king and queen with their atten-dants and children. The finest pavement, which was almost perfect, waspainted on a carefully prepared surface (fig. 25). Itrepresented a tank of fish and lotus surrounded bygroups of plants and flowers.
