The monument was built in tenyears, beinj; completed in 1897. Its en-tire height is 284 feet and 6 inches abovethe level of the street, and the shaft issurmounted by a bronze statue of Vic-ton,, which is 38 feet high. Its foun-dation covers 3657 square feet, and is 30feet deep.
