Hence the doses of these Pills whichare herein recommended are found too large forthe granitic territory of New England, theenfeebling climate of Cuba, Australia, and theslopes of the Andes in Chili and Peru; whilethey are too small for the bilious tracts of ourrank river-bottoms in the valley of the Missis-sippi and its tributaries; and, in the torridregions of Brazil and South Africa, large doses. may safely be employed. Hence the necessjthat patients should, by trial, adjust the dose VI |the requirements of their own case, instead o!T^following explicitly the directions we give. We do not favor the inordinate use of anymedicine; and it is as important to take a goodremedy judiciously as it is to select the right one,or the best that can be obtained. It is imprac-ticable within our space to give explicit direc-tions for all classes and conditions: hence, toget the best effects from our remedies, patientsmust regard these points for themselves, andbring their best judgment to decide what to use,and how to use it. We have abundant evidence to prove thatAyers Pills are superior as a cathartic to anyother in all the uses for which apurgative is employed. They aresure in their operation, more effec-tual as a remedy, and safer, thanany preparation which has everbeen made available to the people.
