Hip and thigh muscles. Artwork of a frontal (anterior) view of some of the muscles (red), ligaments (white) and bones of the human hips and thighs. At upper left, descending from the spine to the hip bones, are the psoas major muscle (broad) and the psoas minor muscle (narrower). To the left of the psoas major, attached to the iliac crest, is the iliacus muscle. At lower left, from left to right, the muscles are: the tensor fascia latae, the sartorius muscle, and the adductor muscles of the hip. At right the attachments of the quadriceps and hamstrings are shown along with the ligaments encasing the head of the femur where it articulates with the pelvis.
