The first finds were made in 1856; itwas not till the spring of 1858 that Frazer river goldbegan to appear at tlic money-changers establishmentson Montgomery street. But Frazer river was a real find, which added, in thecourse of twenty-odd years, more than twice as muchgold to the worlds supply as Spain had obtained fromthe Americas in the same space of time.
