Purple pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea). This carnivorous plant is found along most of the eastern seaboard of the USA, and around the Great Lakes and in south-eastern Canada. This makes it the most common and broadly distributed pitcher plant, and the only one in its genus that is found in cold temperate climates.
