A life-sized statue in bronze of a medieval cordwainer by sculptor Alma Boyes, in the City of London England UK GB
The sculpture was commissioned by the Ward of Cordwainer Club and the Corporation of London to commemorate the club’s centenary and depicts a medieval cordwainer at work. Cordwainers were shoemakers and leatherworkers (the name refers to ‘cordwaine’ or leather imported from Cordoba in Spain) who lived and worked around Bow Lane from the 13th century. The Ward of Cordwainer Club, established in 1902, is one of several Ward Clubs of the City of London, originally formed as rate payers’ associations.
