In 1876 he was elected amember of the City Council of Wilmington, from the Fifth Ward, andre-elected in 1878. During most of the time that he was a member hewas chairman of the Street Committee, at that time an important andresponsible position. At his death in his seventy-third year, he left hislast wife to survive him, and four of his five children. He was buried inthe Wilmington and Brandy wine Cemetery at Wilmington.
