The lower part of the base of the machine consists of alarge air-tight water tank. Above this tank is another smallerone connected to it by a pipe, which extends from near thebottom of the lower tank to the normal water level in theupper one. In order to raise the water level in the uppertank to come in contact with the grinding wheel it is onlynecessary to give a few strokes to the air pump, thus forc-ing the air above the water in the lower tank, causing thewater to flow to the upper one.
