Emission nebula Sh2-142 and star cluster NGC 7380, optical image. The emission nebula Sh2-142 is associated with the open star cluster NGC 7380 (bright blue stars). The nebula glows red as radiation from the newly formed stars ionises the hydrogen gas it contains. The nebula and cluster lie around 7000 light years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus. This image was produced using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
