Nic Zweifel, one of Milwaukee's best known florists and president elect of the Florists' Club was born in that city, but, at an early age, was sent to Switzerland for his education. After his schooling he went for a two-year term to the agricultural college at Zurich, an institution that gives a thorough theoretical and practical edu- cation in agriculture and horticulture. After this he entered the employment of A. Turler of Berne (capital city of Switzerland), where he stayed for two years more and gained much knowl- edge in all branches of horticulture. At the age of 19 he returned to the United States and to his native town putting in two years with Wm. Edelf- sen and then leaving for Des Moines, la., the two years in this case being spent as foreman for W. L. Morris. In 1893 Mr. Zweifel started his own business in Milwaukee as a retailer besides growing carnations for the wholesale market. Shortly afterwards he made up his mind that specializing was best and he went into, growing carnations entirely, erecting a plant in North Milwaukee for the purpose in 1900. The plant has since been en- larged and now consists of 60,000 square feet of glass to which Mr. Zweifel devotes his whole time and energy, having disposed of his Mil- waukee place some years ago. It is hardly necessary for us to say any- thing regarding his success in his chosen line. His name is known wherever carnations are grown and the great success he has had at the leading shows is ample proof of his abilities as a grower and raiser of new forms. His new Bright Spot has been much admired this season wher- ever shown and it will probably be- come very popular. The members of the Milwaukee Florists' Club have chosen their president well and have every reason to congratulate them- selves on securing such a well known and capable grower
