Polygonum vacciniifolium, Wallicli (vacci-nium-leaved Polygonum).—Polygonacese. The first notice of this plant appears tohave been made by Dr. Wallicli, in his splen-did work, the Plantee Asiaticce Rariores. Itwas subsequently referred to by Dr. Royle,in his Illustrations of Himalayan latter states that it grows on the Hima-layan mountains over an extensive range,at from 7,000 to 13,000 feet of elevation. It is found to be perfectly hardy in theclimate of England ; exceedingly well adaptedfor rockwork, which during the autumnalmonths it decorates with a profusion of itsoblong heads of gay pink flowers. The habit of the species is trailing, thestems having a sub-shrubby and permanentcharacter. They are furnished with alternateneat-looking foliage, the resemblance of whichto some of the small-leaved whortle-berrieshas suggested the specific name vacciniifolium ;these
