Detail, Nat Taung Kyaung Monastery, Bagan (Pagan)
Nat Taung Kyaung Monastery/b (built in the 18th century) in a secluded location north of the town walls of Old Bagan, which provides the visitor with an interesting counter-point to the massive stone and brick temples. It is the oldest surviving wooden religious building in Bagan and has been carefully resorted to its former glory, thanks largely to donations from abroad. Very little is written about this small gem, meaning you are likely to one of the few visitors on any given day. The multi-tiered and roof reveals wonderfully creative and intricate ornamental carvings, a testament to the skills of past craftsmen.
