Here are the men who did the thinking for the great mortar that rests so stolidly in the midst of the group. They are its cabinetministers, artillerymen every one, versed in the art of range-finding and danger-angles, of projectory arcs and the timing of the front line the two figures from left to right are Colonel H. L. Abbott, First Coimecticut Hea\7, Artillery, and General H. , Chief of Artillery. In the second, or rear line, also from left to right, the first is Captain F. A.
