Chaffees brigade advanced in extended order from the northwest, the SeventhInfantry on the right, the Twelfth on the left, the Seventeenth as reserve; LudlowsEighth and Twenty-second Infantry advanced in the same way from southwest, withthe Twenty-second Massachusetts Volunteers in reserve.
