Time Ball on Top of Flamsteed House Royal Greenwich Observatory London
This is the world's first public time signal and is still in use today. The Red Ball rises a few minutes before 1 o'clock everyday, and at exactly 1 o'clock falls to the bottom. It may be seen from the River Thames and was designed to help mariners set their watches.
