The cradle car is short and of heavy cast-iron guides engage the brackets of the ladlewhen it is lowered into the car by the crane. The endof the car, opposite that from which the copper ispoured, is weighted with heavy castings bolted to theframe to prevent up-ending. The mold car consists ofa frame of 8-in. I-beams, riveted together, and set ontwo pairs of wheels provided with suitable car accommodates 14 molds; and three cars withthe locomotive attached are operated on 165 ft. of track. The locomotive is small but massive. Two pairs ofwheels support a heavy cast-iron frame, to which addi-tional castings may be bolted if greater weight is foundnecessary. The axle of one pair of wheels is geared toa 7i-hp. direct-current motor rated at 760 Aworm gear provides the necessary reduction of CONVERTER-COPPER MOLD At one end of the locomotive is a frame which carriesthree trolley wheels, and these provide connection be-tween the three trolleys overhead and the motor. Themotor is operated by a controller situated at the pour-ing stand. Three different speeds are permitted bymeans of the trollev svstem which has been mentioned. Above the junction of the two tracks carrying themold cars and the cradle car is a small electric hoistby means of which the ladle in the cradle car is cable connecting the hoist with the ladle passes
