The Juche Tower in Pyongyang, North Korea against a deep blue sky

The Juche Tower in Pyongyang, North Korea, was built to celebrate the 70th birthday of Kim Il-Sung. It is 170m tall, made from granite with a central lift shaft that can carry people to the top where a viewing balcony exists. It is said to have one block per day of the then leader's life. There is a lit torch at te top, visible at night along the Taedong River. It is in line with the theme of tributes to the Sung dynasty around the city.
