Wave-cut platform. View of a large boulder on a coastal wave-cut (abrasion) platform at low tide. This virtually smooth marine platform of hard limestone has been cut by the sea's waves. Over the surface of the platform and the boulder are thousands of tiny barnacles (white encrusting). Amongst the barnacles are larger snail-like dog whelks and cone-shaped limpets. Seaweed is associated with the wetter areas around the small rock pools. Photographed in Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire, England.
