Electroplating industry, 19th century. Illustration of workers filling an electroplating bath at a factory. Electroplating involves using an electric current to deposit a metal on an object that is used an an electrode in an electrolysis circuit. Early applications of this technique included use of the metals gold, silver, copper, nickel, brass, tin, and zinc. Artwork from volume 3 (1874) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
