The church of St Francisco de Asis in a plaza at Rancho de Taos, Taos, New Mexico, USA. The church dates from the early 19th century. The church has been and is a favourite subject for artists and photographers including Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Both of these depicted the church as a fortress on a hilltop whilst the actual church is in a plaza surrounded by assorted other buildings. However the bilding is a thing of simple beauty with the clean lines of its abobe (which is renewed every year with a mix of sand, clay and straw, coated in water and sand and buffed with a sheepskin. The abode seems to glow in the New Mxican sun.
