International Space Station (ISS) with the Space Shuttle Atlantis (upper centre) docked to it. The Shuttle's robotic arm (Remote Manipulator System) is in use, extending to top right. Atlantis is docked to the Unity module (silver), which is in turn attached to the Zarya module (lower left). Photographed during mission STS-106, which lasted from 8-20 September 2000. The mission prepared the ISS for the arrival of its first crew in October 2000. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
