It is adwarf species, rarely more than 1—2 inches, the neatstifT-looking rosettes composed of spatulate leaves,usually blunt, but in some forms pointed, and with3—5 pits on each side of the cartilaginous margins;flowers purple, medium-sized, borne in a paniculateor racemose inflorescence, the whole , flowering June—July.
