Wildernesse Site, Seal Hollow Rd, Sevenoaks, TN13 3SL. 9th September 2016. A tree-planting event marking the start of building work on a grammar school annexe, the first in England for 50 years, took place in Michael Fallon's constituency of Sevenoaks in Kent. The annexe of the Weald of Kent Grammar School is being built after years of campaigning and the start of the work is described by Kent County Council leader Paul Carter as a "hugely significant day for selective education in the country". The event coincides with Theresa May's statement that all schools in England are to be given the right to apply to select pupils by ability, under plans also allowing grammar schools to expand. The prime minister's plans suggest schools becoming selective and new and expanding grammars will take quotas of poor pupils or help run other schools.
