Fresco "Wheel of Life", Rojdestvo Hristovo (Nativity of Christ) church, Arbanassi village, Veliko Tarnovo district, Bulgaria
A unique mural "The Wheel of Life" can be seen in the gallery of the Nativity of Christ Church in Arbanasi. The fresco dates from 1632 and is a complex composition with concentric circles resembling a rudder. In the center is an inscribed solar disk surrounded by personifications of the four seasons. Next comes another circle with 12 rays dividing the sectors into 12 zodiac signs, and on the outside correspond the 12 months. On the edges of the wheel are represented the essential phases of human life. Below, on steep rocks stand the angels of day and night. They turn the wheel, and at the base is the devouring hell. In the two upper corners of the composition, two sinners present the parable of the straw in the neighbor's eye (Matthew 7: 2-5).
