Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram has historic monuments built largely between the 7th and the 9th century, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Shore temple is a large Hindu temple with remarkable bas relief carvings on granite. There are five monument stupas in the complex, the Stone Chariots of the Pandavas, the Pancha Pandava Rathas.
