Because of the low humidity and precipitation in the mountains of Southern California in the last few years and the growing Pine Beetle threat caused of the mild winters the Forest Service has been busy cutting the older and dead pine trees from the forest and hills. Unfortunately this also includes other plants such as Manzanita and Oak which have to come down to get to the ones that need to be cut.
