Those who re-ceived these titles by brevet only are not included. Abercrombie, John J., brigadier-general, was born in Tennesseein 1802, and died in Roslyn, N. Y., in 1877. Entering West Pointfrom Tennessee, he was graduated in 1822, served as adjutant inthe 1st infantry from 1825 to 1833 and was made captain in 1836
