Pollen grains size comparison preparation, light micrograph

Differential interference contrast (DIC) light micrograph of a preparation with pollen of two plants for size comparison. The round, large pollen grains of the dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) were stained with fuchsin. The much smaller dumbbell-shaped pollen of the forget-me-not (Myosotis sp.) is unstained. The preparation shows the enormous size range of pollen grains. Magnification: x600 at a print width of 10 centimetres.
