Perry of Niagara Falls, built a life boat for the purpose of making a trip andsucceeded in going through safely. Two attempts have been made to swim the Rapids, one was successful; but the other. Captain Webb, an English crank, whohad swam the English Channel, lost his life July 24, 1863, in attempting to swim the Niagara Rapids.
