At first hesold them at the high price ofsix hundred crowns, the sumusually obtained by the afterward lowered hisprice to sixty crowns, whichcreated universal astonish-ment; but when he producedthem according to the demand,and even reduced the price tothirty, all Paris became agita-ted. Information was givenagainst him as a magician ; hislodgings were searched, agreat number of bibles werefound and seized ; the red inkwith which they were embel-lished was said to be his blood,and it was adjudged that hewas in league with the was cast into prison, andwould probably have been putto death, had he not divulged.
