Berlin, Wannsee. Flensburg Lion. Zinc copy of sculpture by Danish Sculptor Hermann Wilhelm Bissen commemorates a Danish Victory in 1850. The Danish victory over Schleswig-Holstein took place at the Battle Of Idstedt in 1850 and the monument was unveiled at Flensburg's Old Cemetery in 1862. In 1864 Denmark was forced to cede Schleswig & Holstein and the monument was moved to Berlin in 1867. The Americans returned the Lion to Denmark after WW2 & it was placed in the armoury in Copenhagen. The Danes returned the lion to Flensburg in 2011. The Flensburg lion at Heckeshorn is a zinc copy made in 1874 for Berlin banker, Wilhelm Conrad, who placed the lion at Wannsee. It was moved to its present Heckeshorn site in 1938.
